Abstract
Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is considered a global public’s health problem due to the increasing prevalence and incidence in the population. Nurses assist individuals with their underlying disease and involve the family in carrying out activities that contribute to care and prevention of the disease or to recover their health. Therefore, the main role is focused on helping the patients to keep or gain independence and to create self-care habits on the patient, according to their needs previously identified. Objective: This study aimed to identify the nurse’s role in the treatment of renal therapy: peritoneal dialysis, reported in databases during 2008-2014 periods. Method: A systematic search was conducted on information databases: Scientific Library (scielo), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), PubMed, Proquest, Virtual Library using the terms “nursing care”, “chronic renal failure”, “peritoneal dialysis”, and “self-care” published in the 2008-2014 period. Conclusion: The documents previously consulted indicate that the nursing role that prevails management Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) is the educational, because as it is evidenced by relevant studies, with an adequate instruction and training to the patient and caregiver, it is achieved a greater adherence to the treatment, therefore reducing the complications of PD.[Licht M, Almeida J, Bolívar F, Galván Y, García S.
