Abstract

This article presents an applied technology development project in computer science focused on the design and implementation of UroSystemTests, a web-based information system to support the management of urinalysis tests in hospitals in the department of Huila, Colombia. The development project arose from the need to improve the recording, retrieval, availability, and interoperability of clinical information associated with these tests, as in some hospital settings, data is still managed through manual or unstructured processes. The solution was developed using open-source technologies, employing a web architecture based on an application server, a MySQL database, and interface components accessible via web browsers. In addition, the system incorporates the HL7-FHIR standard and JSON data representation to facilitate future interoperability with other health information systems. As a result, a functional platform was implemented with distinct user profiles for administrators, medical staff, patients, and laboratory personnel, enabling test authorization, result recording, clinical information retrieval, and user management. This case study demonstrates the applicability of opensource computational tools to strengthen clinical information management processes, improve the traceability of urinalysis tests, and facilitate organized access to clinical information in hospital settings.
